D.A.R.E.

The D.A.R.E. program is a curriculum based learning strategy established in 1983. The program consists of certified, uniformed officers who enter the classroom and educate our children in a school environment about the harmful effects of drugs, such as tobacco, alcohol, marijuana and inhalants. The purpose was not just to say no, but to answer the question of why we should not use drugs, and to educate children of how the body is affected by drugs through clinical studies and proven research. The program also teaches how to identify and understand peer and individual pressures, as well as, how to be confident while making healthier and responsible decisions. Since the establishment of the D.A.R.E. program, it has been implemented in thousands of schools around the world. The D.A.R.E. program has reached and educated over a million children. Although the D.A.R.E. program has gained notoriety, the success of the program is not possible without the support of the parents, school, and community. The efforts made by all, are what accomplishes change, for the strongest resistance is through education.
